The 45th Annual Greater New York Team and Individual
CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS! America's Longest-Running, Rated Scholastic Chess Tournament: SPONSORED BY THE KASPAROV CHESS FOUNDATION!
Great Hotel Site in Midtown Manhattan!
JANUARY 29 or 30, 2011:
The New Yorker Hotel, 481 Eighth Avenue at 34th Street, New York City
Playing site: the Grand Ballroom and 3rd Floor Conference Rooms of the New Yorker Hotel, 481 Eighth Avenue at 34th Street (near Penn Station Subways and Train Station, and 33rd Street PATH Trains), New York City: 212-971-0101. Call New Yorker Hotel to reserve hotel rooms for overnight hotel stays.
Format: four separate, one-day tournaments, two on Saturday, two Sunday, each is a 5-Round, Swiss-System tournament (everyone plays all 5 rounds, no one is eliminated). Each game is 30 minutes per player (Game/30), rated by the United States Chess Federation (USCF). Each tournament has 3 sections from which to choose. Great for beginners-- all players receive a national chess rating! Many will be playing in their first tournament; others, including some of the top youngsters in the country, will be defending their Greater New York City Championship titles! Each section of each tournament awards prizes for the top-scoring players and schools; players are eligible for both individual and team prizes. Any number of players may participate from a school to help compete for team prizes (2 or more from a school make a team), but the school's 4 top-scoring players produce its team score. Players without school teams compete for individual prizes. The Top 3 players in each section also win months of free entries into all the Chess Center of New York's tournaments (except quads)-- a savings of hundreds of dollars off the regular tournament entry fees!
Game times: 10 am, 12 Noon, 2 pm, 3:30 pm and 5:15 pm each day.
Those unable to play all five games may request ½-point byes in advance for rounds which they cannot play.
